James Clague MCIAT

Managing Director

James is building upon his family’s legacy by being the third generation to lead an architectural practice in the South-East. James brings a deep-rooted passion for buildings and places. His commitment to Kent’s architectural heritage runs through everything he does, shaping a practice built on integrity, design, innovation, and care.

After a decade at Clague LLP mastering the craft of technical design and project delivery, James became a Chartered Architectural Technologist in 2012. A year later, he launched James Clague Architects — a bold move that blended entrepreneurial spirit with a love for thoughtful, high-quality design and his local architectural heritage.

Since then, James has led projects across the South-East, including managing private client property portfolios and delivering a wide range of bespoke developments. His sweet spot? Complex, high-end projects involving historic buildings in designated areas — where experience and precision meet creativity.

James leads a team that is as passionate as he is about exceeding expectations in terms of design, technology and service. Together, they create architecture that is not only beautiful and functional, but deeply respectful of its context. For James, it is never just about buildings — it is about legacy and making places where people love to live and work.
